Those waiting in the long queue to buy a new Mahindra Scorpio-N should get ready for a surprise, as Mahindra has quietly removed some of the features across its variant lineup. The move has been introduced to keep up with the rising costs and keep the prices of the Mahindra Scorpio-N to not increase significantly.

The first and most talked about feature revision in the Mahindra Scorpio-N variant lineup is the downsizing of alloy wheels in the second-top Z8 variant. Earlier, Mahindra was offering 17-inch steel wheels with the Z8 manual and 18-inch alloy wheels in the Z8 automatic variants. From now on, both the manual and automatic versions of the Scorpio-N Z8 variant will get 17-inch machined alloy wheels as standard.

More significant changes have been executed in the mid-spec Z4 and Z6 variants of the Mahindra Scorpio-N. These variants, along with the Z8 variant, will no longer be offered with a cooled glove box – a feature which has now been restricted only to the top-spec Z8L variant. The omission of cooled glovebox in the Z4, Z6 and Z8 variants will be applicable even for the pending bookings.

Mahindra has also revised the instrument console and infotainment system offered in the Z6 variant of the Scorpio-N. Earlier, the Z6 variant was offered with a 7-inch TFT instrument console Adrenox Connect and Built-in Alexa for the infotainment system. Now, while the instrument console on the Z6 variant has been replaced by a more basic instrument console with a 4.2-inch LCD MID from the Z4 variant, the Adrenox Connect and Built-in Alexa have been removed from the infotainment system.

However, Mahindra has confirmed that these changes in the instrument console and infotainment system in the Z6 variant will apply only to the bookings made after 1st January 2024, while the bookings of the Z6 variant made in 2023 will be delivered with the previously available features. Mahindra has also removed the passenger-side request sensor entirely from the Scorpio-N, a feature which was offered in the higher-spec Z8 and Z8L variants.

Other minor changes to the Mahindra Scorpio-N lineup include a reduction in the number of reverse parking sensors from four to two and a black-coloured door handle for the tailgate instead of the silver-coloured handle. Apart from these changes, the Mahindra Scorpio-N remains unaffected, with the ladder-on-frame SUV continued to be offered with both 2.0-litre 203 PS turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre 175 PS diesel engine options with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions and an optional 4XPLOR four-wheel drive system with the diesel version.

Scorpio-N gets 5-star G-NCAP rating

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is a 5-star-rated car in terms of safety. It achieved a score of 29.25 out of 34 in adult occupant protection and 28.94 out of 48 in child occupant protection. The Scorpio-N also performed exceptionally well in the side impact test, which is assessed under the latest test protocol.

Global N-CAP has determined that the Mahindra Scorpio-N offers good protection for the driver’s and passenger’s necks. However, the protection for the driver’s and passengers’ chests is rated as marginal. In the side impact test with a deformable barrier, the Scorpio-N scored an impressive 16 out of a total of 17 points. The SUV also received an OK rating for the side pole impact test, although the chest region of the occupants received a “weak” rating.
