Select Jeep Wrangler models were recalled in the United States, but fortunately for the company, as well as owners, just a few dozen examples were impacted. All of them have already been repaired under warranty, too.

A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall reveals that certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler models have a wiring harness for the center high mount stop lamp (CHMSL) and rearview camera that could have been pinched between the spare tire carrier and swing gate during vehicle assembly. This could trigger a short circuit and cause both the lamp and the camera to fail.

Both faults pose a safety risk. Jeep says that if the rearview camera isn’t working, there’s an increased risk of people outside the vehicle being struck while reversing. An inoperative rear lamp may also make it more difficult for following motorists to notice if a Wrangler is using its brakes in front of them.

The recall involved 46 Jeep Wranglers built between January 20, 2018, and June 21, 2023.

FCA US was alerted to a potential issue on March 22, 2023, and over the following 15 months, analyzed warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records. A decision to make a recall was made on September 5.

Jeep dealers will be alerted to the recall on or around September 19, while owners will be informed from September 26. Interestingly, all vehicles have already been fixed by having the CHMSL and rearview camera harness and or spare tire carrier/harness assembly replaced under warranty.
