Queen Elizabeth II’s Range Rover for sale

Remember the Queen’s Bentley? Back in 2021, the Barnato Green Mulsanne formerly owned by HRH was for sale, and jolly nice it looked as well with its Twine main leather, Burr Walnut and minimal mileage. It was expensive, sure, though not for sale long; the spec was desirable enough already, even without the royal connection.

Of course, it was mostly thanks to that connection it turned out to be one of the most-read stories of that year (doubtless interest on social media had something to do with that) although now we get the chance to see what extent the nation’s affection for green Bentleys played a part. Because the same dealer has struck gold again: behold, a Royal Household Range Rover for sale.

Like the Mulsanne, this SDV8 Autobiography comes in a fantastic specification. You’ll seldom go wrong with blue over cream, and it works a treat on a long-wheelbase Range Rover, particularly with clear glass and reasonably modest wheels. It’s a smart spec rather than an attention-grabbing one, which is nice to see on a fairly modern R-R. Furthermore, while some of the modifications made at the Land Rover Workshop for the late Queen have been removed (the side steps and the siren), the grab handles that were fitted are still with the car. As is the warning about the siren under the bonnet. Otherwise, it’s just another old diesel Range Rover, right?

Sparingly used on Royal duties, covering 2,586 miles in a couple of years of service before being sold in the LR dealer network. The Range Rover is now on 18k, which is still not very much for a 2016 car; given the provenance and the price that must have been paid (more on that in a sec), it’s easy to understand not subjecting the Range to hard miles. While bits of the L405 era look a tad old now with the new model well-established, it presents pretty flawlessly.

Speaking of old, perhaps the most famous appearance of this car was transporting the Obamas at Windsor Castle on a state visit in April 2016. Back then it was only a month or so old – what a way to show off your new Range Rover. Amazing, too, to think that was less than eight years ago. Quite a bit has changed since then.

What’s no different, however, is the lasting fondness for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Accordingly, the next owner of this Range will have to be a very wealthy fan of the Royal family, as the SDV8 is for sale at £224,850. A car with comparable mileage and spec but without any regal link would be a chunk less than £50k. Still, as with the Mulsanne, it likely won’t be around long. There’s not another like it – and won’t be ever again.
