Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello Is A Wine-Themed One-Off

  • Maserati unveiled the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello, a one-off based on its electric convertible.
  • The unique Maserati Fuoriserie creation was built for the 50th anniversary of the Tignanello wine.
  • The car was created for the Marchesi Antinori wine company and will be auctioned for charity in California.

Maserati put its Fuoriserie customization program to work, creating a special fully electric GranCabrio Folgore inspired by wine. This is rather unconventional for an automobile as drinking and driving is an illegal combination but the result is a rather unique combination of colors. The Tignanello one-off is named after a red wine variety, and will soon be auctioned for charity in California.

The Fuoriserie-customised EV was created in collaboration with Italian wine-makers Marchesi Antinori to celebrate the Tignanello wine’s 50th anniversary. The latter is considered special for being “the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional grape varieties, and one of the first red wines from Chianti Classico that did not use white grapes”.

The electric Maserati’s spec is finished in a bespoke chestnut color called Terra di Tignanello, featuring a coppery burgundy and a metallic tint. Maserati Fuoriserie combined it with black alloy wheels and calipers, a black soft top, and copper emblems.

The exposed four-seater cabin of the GranCabrio is equally special, featuring a unique treatment for the seats. The leather upholstery is “embellished with a multi-material silver and burgundy ribbed weave”, looking like the rows of vines on the hills of Tignanello. The inserts are made of Vegea, a spreadable fabric that allegedly “looks and feels like leather” and is derived from the vineyards.

The door inserts and center console trim are made of dark briar wood, featuring lasered lettering reminiscent of the printing on the oak barrels. Furthermore, the Trident emblem embroidery on the headrests is designed after the sun, a hallmark of the Tignanello wine, also featured on the bottle. The same graphic is lasered on the center console, alongside the 1971-2021 dates, which refer to the first and current vintage of the wine.

There are no changes on the underpinnings of the standard GranCabrio Folgore which comes fitted with a trio of electric motors. The combined output is 818 hp (610 kW / 829 PS) and 1,350 Nm (996 lb-ft) of torque, allowing the convertible to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.8 seconds. The battery pack has a capacity of 92.5 kWh and is good for an EPA-estimated range of 233 miles (375 km) between charges.

The only Maserati GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello in the world will go under the hammer on July 14, at the Arts for All Gala event in the Festival Napa Valley of California. All proceeds from the sale of the wine-themed special will be donated to charity.
