Lauren Boebert Finds Out The Hard Way You Have To Pay Speeding Tickets On Time Or Go To Court

Congresswoman and public indecency enthusiast Lauren Boebert found herself in legal trouble yet again after getting caught speeding in Colorado back in May. Instead of paying the fine it on time, Boebert waited until she was notified that she had a pending court date to take care of the ticket. Ultimately, instead of going to court, she took a plea deal, Westword reports.

On May 12, Colorado State Patrol caught Boebert driving the Vail Pass in a black Mazda CX-50 doing 84 mph in a 65 mph zone. She received a $174.50 speeding ticket and instructions to pay it within 20 days or go to court. Boebert, of course, didn’t pay the ticket until she found out about her court date, eventually calling about the ticket on July 3. The terms of her plea deal are currently not clear, but we can’t imagine her punishment will be particularly harsh.

“Tickets that aren’t paid to the state before their twenty-day deadline, they’ll get sent to the court,” one clerk told Westword. “Her case got forwarded to the court, we opened a case, and she took a standard plea offer.”

Boebert’s press secretary reportedly claims Boebert initially mailed a check to the Department of Revenue, which was eventually returned to her, instead of paying via the online portal. He also claimed to have no idea why she mailed the check in the first place and that she explained what happened to the court clerk when she called on July 3. If you’re not buying that story, though, you’re not alone. The clerk Westword spoke to says the congresswoman never mentioned trying to mail a check.

This also isn’t the first time Boebert’s poor driving has gotten her in trouble. Back in 2016, she rolled her truck into a ditch and was cited for careless driving and unsafe driving. She ultimately missed her court date and was later arrested. Later, in 2020, she was accused of causing serious injuries to her now-former sister-in-law for jumping out of a Jeep right before it crashed, but the police declined to investigate further.

Prior to 2016, Boebert was also arrested over an altercation with law enforcement and later arrested again after she missed her court date. Also don’t forget her previous charge for disorderly conduct and multiple dog code violations.

Lauren isn’t the only Boebert who has trouble following the law. Her son Tyler was arrested earlier this year over a series of vehicle break-ins and charged with five felonies and 15 misdemeanors. Back in September 2022, he was also ticketed for rolling his father’s truck into a creek, injuring his passenger. As for her ex-husband, well, let’s just say he’s a convicted sex offender, and it wasn’t because he urinated in public.

Once again, we’re reminded of the quote from composer Frank Wilhoit that says, “Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
