Mahindra is continuously updating their popular offering, the XUV 700 to increase the competition in the Indian SUV market. The automaker recently launched the MX 7-seater variant (seven seat configuration in the base trim) and the XUV 700 Blaze Edition which was based on the top of the line AX7L trim.
Now, Mahindra has launched another new variant of this SUV named as the AX5 Select. The brand has specially showcased the launch of this variant via a TVC uploaded on their official YouTube channel for the SUV called ‘Mahindra XUV700.’ Now, let’s talk about the TVC.
The television video commercial starts with beautiful drone shots and a couple getting inside the XUV 700 AX5 Select. The TVC shows that this variant does not get electric door handles or smart door handles.
The female mentions that “In a team, we need to carry everyone in all,” to which the guy responds, “I always do.” This conversation highlights that this new variant comes with a seven seat configuration. After this, the camera shifts to the second and third row where 5 adults can be seen sitting comfortably.
Throughout the 30 second TVC, multiple features of this new variant are highlighted which we will discuss further. First, let’s talk about the pricing and the positioning. The Mahindra XUV 700 AX5 Select variant is priced at Rs. 16.89 lakhs for the petrol engine option with manual transmission.
On the other hand, the diesel engine with the manual transmission will set you back by Rs. 17.49 lakhs ex-showroom. The automatic variants are priced at Rs. 18.49 lakhs and Rs. 19.09 lakhs for the petrol and diesel respectively. This variant is positioned above the AX3 (only available in 5-seater version) and below the AX5 trims.
This variant costs Rs. 50,000 more than the AX3 and Rs. 80,000 less than the AX5 5-seater version. This difference increases to Rs. 1,30,000 if we compare the prices to the AX5 7-seater version. The AX5 Select is only available in a seven seat configuration.
Now, let’s talk about its key offerings. The Mahindra XUV AX5 Select variant offers a huge panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless connectivity, keyless entry with push button start/stop and as mentioned earlier, a seven seat configuration. Mahindra’s popular AdrenoX connected car features are also offered in this variant with more than 75 features. However, these features become paid after one year.
Talking about the engine and transmission options, consumers can choose between a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine or a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. The petrol engine delivers a power output of 200 PS and a torque of 380 Nm while the diesel engine produces 185 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque.
Both the engines can be opted with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The top end variants of the SUV also offer a choice of all-wheel drive system (AWD).
In the Indian market, the XUV 700 competes with Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, Jeep Compass and the upcoming 7-seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder.
