Jaguar F-Pace SVR | Spotted

The question of what we mean when we say ‘high mileage’ is a thorny one. For some people – generally those who look forward to replacing a car every few years – the idea of driving something with six figures showing on the clock is probably as foreign a concept as reusing a tea bag. For anyone accustomed to covering the sort of distances that would make a Canadian truck driver wince, however, any reading that doesn’t start with a ‘2’ means you’re just not trying hard enough.

While it’s possible to argue the mechanical effect of big mileages on modern cars from either side of the fence, we can at least all agree that in a saturated marketplace there will be one unavoidable consequence: bone-crunching depreciation. Which, if you’re inured to the thought that a car will crumble into dust after a preordained point, means there are always bargains aplenty to be had – particularly if the car you’re after is inclined to develop a raging thirst.

A thousand blessings then on whichever owner of this particular F-Pace SVR decided it would be the ideal solution to the job of bombing up and down a motorway every week. Its tally of 144,972 miles is hardly an outlier in repmobile terms, but averaging the best part of 30k per year suggests plenty of time has been spent in the outside lane turning unleaded into noise. Which is something most SVR owners seem disinclined to do: the next leggiest example of the model on PH, which is the same age, has accrued just 49k.

As a result, while that car will set you back £39k (essentially bottom of the market for used F-Pace SVRs in 2024), our hero wagon is priced at just £23,995. Sure, you’ll have to endure the old interior, which includes the clunky infotainment interface that Jaguar finally replaced in 2021. But you still come away with arguably the best car the manufacturer has built in years, equipped with the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that makes it genuinely exciting to drive. For more than £50k less than it would have cost you five years ago.

Lest we forget, the F-Pace is also positioned to be the last combustion model that Jaguar builds before it transitions to an EV-only future. And while that hardly confers enduring classic status on the car, it will probably feel like a mighty fine thing to be tooling around in while the manufacturer (potentially) struggles to sell anyone on the idea of yet another six-figure battery-electric luxury variant.

Either way, it’s a bargain, no? The vendor reckons it has a full service history and definitely it has a very recent MOT. It looks in fine fettle in the pictures. Or does the thought of 144k still loom too large over the upfront pay-off? Granted, like meat from a slow-cooked shoulder joint, a good deal more value will likely fall away as the car approaches 200k – but it’s surely too modern and appealingly fast to bottom out somewhere terrifying. An XFR from 2010 is still the best part of £10k and they feel ancient. And slower. We know where our Monopoly money would be going.
