BMW published yet another teaser of the upcoming 2025 M5 Sedan and M5 Touring plug-in hybrids, showing a little bit of everything from their development. The highlight is the sketches of the M5 which are shown on camera for the first time, giving us extra hints about M-specific styling cues that remain hidden in the camouflaged prototypes.

The G90 BMW M5 will be visually distinguished by the regular 5-Series thanks to a redesigned bodykit. This will include wider fenders, deeper bumpers, and a diffuser housing quad exhaust pipes. Our spy photographers have already spotted prototypes with less camouflage on, revealing the location of the charging port on the swollen front fender.

The sketches show the designers’ intent to make the M5 boxier and more aggressive compared to lesser 5-Series, communicating its performance credentials. We also get to see a little bit of the sheet metal on the toned-up rear fenders of the M5 Touring without the usual camouflage wrap.

BMW has confirmed that the new M5 will feature a plug-in hybrid setup, similar to the XM SUV flagship. The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine will be assisted by a single electric motor, integrated within the eight-speed automatic gearbox, and a battery pack with a rumored capacity of 18.6 kWh. The combined output will reportedly reach 718 hp (535 kW / 728 PS) and 760 lb-ft (1,030 Nm) of torque, transmitted to all four wheels. It has been reported that the new model will tip the scales at 5,368 lbs (2,435 kg), making it the heaviest among all M5 generations.
In an earlier video series from the M5’s development, the company put a lot of emphasis in the merits of the electronic all-wheel-drive system which make it faster and safer compared to the previous generations. In terms of the chassis setup and overall performance, one of the BMW M test drivers described the M5 as an “all-purpose tool on the motorway as well as on the racetrack, or simply going on holiday with the whole family”, hinting at its versatile nature.
BMW hasn’t set a date for the debut of the M5 Sedan and M5 Touring, but said that the wait is nearly over. Rivals of the model will include the upcoming Mercedes-AMG E63 S E-Performance and the successor of the Audi RS6.
