When we talk cars under Rs. 8 lakhs in India, two popular options that come to the mind are Maruti Suzuki Swift which is sold through Arena outlets and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx which is sold through premium Nexa outlets. The Swift is a hatchback while the Fronx is a sub-compact crossover SUV.
Today, with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by Classic Gears, we will compare the mid-spec variant of the Swift with the base variant of the Fronx. Both of these variants are priced similarly with the Swift VXi Optional costing Rs. 7.57 lakhs ex-showroom and the Fronx Sigma costing Rs. 7.51 lakhs ex-showroom.
Talking about the overall price range, the pricing for the Maruti Swift starts at Rs. 6.49 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 9.65 lakhs. On the other hand, the Fronx being a premium offering is priced at Rs. 7.51 lakhs to Rs. 13.04 lakhs.
Regarding the dimensions, the 2024 Swift measures 3860 mm in length, 1735 mm in width, 1520 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2450 mm. In contrast, the Fronx measures 3995 mm in length, 1765 mm in width, 1550 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2520 mm.
Even in terms of boot space the Fronx offers a much larger 308 liters boot capacity while the Swift only offers 265 litres. There exists a significant difference in terms of dimensions of both the cars and if space is your priority you should clearly go for the Fronx.
A major difference exists in terms of ground clearance as well. The Swift offers a ground clearance of 163 mm while the Fronx being a crossover SUV offers a much higher ground clearance of 190 mm.
Even in terms of power, the Fronx excels over the Swift. The new Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder NA engine which produces 80 PS and 111 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Fronx gets power from a 1.2-litre four cylinder NA engine which delivers an output of 89 PS and 113 Nm.
This makes the Fronx slightly more powerful but the difference is negligible. However, the refinement that the four cylinder engine offers is missing in the Swift. In terms of mileage, the Swift easily wins over the Fronx.
As the comparison of the mid-spec variant of Swift is with the base variant of the Fronx, the feature differences are obvious. What the Swift VXi optional offers over the Fronx Sigma:
